St. John the Baptist’s Athletic Ministry was created in 2004, and tasked with growing the program in three directions:
In the following pages, you will find information on all of our sports, both CYO (currently soccer, basketball and baseball) and Intramural (currently soccer, basketball, volleyball and T-ball). You will also find information on volunteering opportunities, special events and outreach activities. The primary purpose of the Athletic Ministry as a Parish organization program is youth ministry. The Athletic Ministry seeks to create a safe and healthy environment for the children of the St. John's community to grow as Christians through our sports program. Through the efforts of dedicated adults (Athletic Ministry Board members, sports commissioners, coaches, and adult volunteers), children develop the athletic virtues of teamwork, self-discipline, good sportsmanship, and competitiveness in a positive, Catholic environment. Our program begins at the Pre-K, age 4 level with “Little Feet” soccer; at the kindergarten level, our sports lineup includes “Little Feet” soccer, basketball, and Friday Night T-ball . For grades 1 through 8, we offer a variety of intramural and competitive sports, including soccer, basketball, volleyball and baseball. In partnership with St. Andrew Apostle in Wheaton, we also offer children the opportunity to participate in track & field. At this time, we are considering adding girls’ softball for 2008 to our slate of sports. If you have any questions about any of our programs, feel free to contact one of the individuals on the “Athletic Ministry Council” page. Welcome to St. John the Baptist’s Athletic Ministry where there is always a place for you! |
